Three weeks ago I fractured my left wrist in a cycling accident. Six to seven week recovery. No swimming, no upper body work, for now.

Here’s the part I didn’t expect: it’s the best thing that’s happened to my training all year.

Back in January I hurt my IT band at a track session. Instead of dealing with it, I tried to run through it — cut mileage when it flared up, added it back when it felt fine, never actually fixed anything. That went on for months.

Six weeks ago I finally did it right: red light therapy, massage, a real PT plan, a slow rebuild.

Three weeks into that rebuild, the wrist happened. No swimming. No lifting. Nothing left to distract me from the one thing my running actually needed — daily glute and hip work I’d been skipping since January.

A week later, it clicked. I was running consistently for the first time all year.

Turns out I didn’t need more mileage. I needed less noise and one non-negotiable habit, done every day, whether or not I felt fine.

My bike numbers are better indoors. My IT band feels better than it has in six months. The only reason being I finally ran out of other things to half-do.

You probably already have one of these — the mobility work, the strength session, the thing you know you should do daily but only do once something already hurts.

Do that one thing today. Not because you’re injured. Because you’re not, yet.

Hit reply and tell me what it is. I’ll actually read it.
